Gothenburg, March 9, 2020 --The Hasselblad Foundation is pleased to announce that Alfredo Jaar is the recipient of the 2020 Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography for the sum of SEK 1,000,000 (approx. USD 100,000).Alfredo Jaar is the 40th winner of the Hasselblad Award. The award ceremony will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden, on October 19, 2020.

The Hasselblad Award laureates are artists, innovators, activists, rebels and legends who have shaped the modern history of photography. The majority of the recipients are active in the classical genres of the documentary, portraiture, still life, street and landscape photography.

The company originally became known for its classic analog medium format cameras that used a waist level viewfinder. Perhaps the most famous use of the Hasselblad camera was during the Apollo program missions when the first humans landed on the Moon.
